From sad to angry

I have gone from sad, to angry. I honestly cannot believe that I live in a country where my life does not matter. I cannot believe I live in a country that put greed and power over helping its own citizens. How can a person with an income of ONLY $219 not qualify for medical insurance from the state?

Please do not get me wrong. I don’t think any person should use abuse the welfare system. I don’t think people should spend their entire life getting a check, or not working. BUT I do feel, if you are a person that has worked, has been a productive part of society, and then when you can no longer work due to a medical condition, then there should be some resources that are open and available to that person. I am not mooch, I am not a person that has never worked, I am an Educated, beyond a B.S., hardworking, born and bred citizen of this country, but I could die because $219 is considered too much.

My life, My health and my quality of life is not important in the country. This is what I have come to understand. If I can be turned down or insurance with an income of 219 a month, then my government does not care. How can any system be set up to think a person with two children, really three but my oldest is over 18 so they do not count her, can pay rent, pay for medicine, pay for  doctor bills and pay for  all other bills on $219 a month? The reality of it is when I get that money it is gone the same day. It is spent before I even get it. So for me to degrade myself and go into the public welfare office and sit inform of a woman that can honestly tell me I do NOT qualify leaves me thinking and feeling there is something wrong with this system.

I have read many articles about how sick we are as a nation. I have read many times about how more of us are getting high blood pressure, diabetes, cancers, and so on at a larger rate than other generations. However, no one has taken the time to see how maybe, we are getting all these things because many of us work every day but have no insurance. We cannot get preventative care so by the time we go to the doctors it is too late. We have a life threating disease that could have been prevented.

The insurance I did have said my operations were elective. To them being able to have a normal heart beat is not something that is required to have. It is something you elect to have. How CRAZY is that. WHO ELECT to go in and out of A-fib?!!! Who Elects to put their self in this position? Why would I want to spend my life sick, passing out, turning blue, and in and out of the hospital? This is okay to them. I should be okay with this and not “ELECT” to have a normal heart beat, be able to work full time with energy, mental clarity, not pass out behind the of a car. Those are things that you elect to have they are not something that is required.
The same goes for my aneurysm. To them it is too small. The fact that it is on my optic nerve is not important. I can lose my sight but that’s not important, ONLY the size. I can continue to have headaches every day. I can keep praying every day this thing does not pop in my head and kill me. Because if it does I have a 50% chance of dying and IF I do live I have a3% chance of having ANY bodily functions!!!!! So according to the insurance company, that’s normal and something I elect to have. Being free from the fear of immediate death if this thing pops is not something normal, its an elective!!! Am I missing something or is that just crazy!!!

The same goes for dental insurance. I am sure everyone has read that bad dental care is related to heart disease BUT how many of us have no dental insurance or poor dental insurance. I have not had dental coverage that paid for anything other than x-ray and cleaning since I have 18. I am ashamed to say this but that’s about how longs it been since I have been in a dentist chair to get anything done other than a cleaning. I have listen to them tell me how I need this does or that done but with three children to support, paying for braces for my daughter, paying college fees, and tuitions for both my younger children’s classes, I don’t have money to spare for myself. Like many people in this country, I make sure my children have before I care for myself.  So year after year, my teeth have gotten worse. I have had a tooth that broke off and is infected. However, instead of being able to get it fixed. I have been given antibiotics every few months instead of being able to get the thing fixed properly. How crazy is that? We have a medical system that will pay to take away the symptoms of the problem BUT will NOT fix the cheaper problem itself!!!!! I am sure my insurance (when I worked) has spent more money on doctor fees and meds over three years, than it would have by just allowing me to get my tooth fixed. We live in what is said to be the greatest nation in the world, and yet we have people that go without basic things required to live every day. How can that be?

We need to wake up as a nation. We need to stop all this party politics and get down to fixing our own country. We need to stop being front and center in the world’s problems when we have our own problems to fix. How can you talk about the neighbor’s yard being dirty when you have dead people lying in your yard. We need to clean up our own mess before we worry about others.
We should NOT have anyone without healthcare. We should not have people having to choose between lifesaving meds and food. We should NOT have families having to move back in with their parents because they can no longer pay for rent due to medical expenses. A person that can have a simple operation to fix their problem and be a productive part of society should not be denied that and be FORCED to live on handouts from stranger and friends. Or told to apply for disability so they can instead of getting fixed live off the tax payers and in poverty.
We should want better than this. Our country should be better than thisImagehttps://fundrazr.com/campaigns/bQ4v3

  1. You’re in my thoughts and prayers, Jayla. I can’t even begin to imagine what you’re enduring. If we can’t “fix” the insurance policies, or the party politics that facilitate this kind of thinking and these atrocious regulations, then perhaps this is where we need to come together to support one another. I’m so happy to see the fundraiser slowly gathering more money for your medicine and treatment. I pray Allah will multiply what others are giving.
    Much love, Julie xx
